Pavel Jandourek

                                             SCRIPTWRITER AND DIRECTOR

Text for Encyclopedia of Documentary Directors – author Martin Štoll

He graduated from Brno University of Technology and became the director of the university's audiovisual centre and at the same time he was a camera assistant in ČST. He began his distance learning at KDT FAMU (Department of the Documentary Film of FAMU in Prague). After graduation (1991) he became a freelance scriptwriter and film director. In addition to documentaries, he has worked in a wide range of audiovisual productions. Later, he focused mainly on feature and TV films, moving from his first attempt to create a story about Eskimo Welzl (Bear Eater (1996) to fairy tales (The Kingdom of Streams, 2005; About a Chimney Sweep's Apprentice and a Confectioner's Daughter, 2007) and comedies (Komediograf, 2003; Kája a Zabi, 2007), his strength being mysterious stories (Gate of angels from the series The Guardian of Souls, 2004); so far, he achieved the greatest success with a distribution film MAHARAL (2007) and its series version. Another successful production is a fascinating story of a bon vivant and the first owner of the animation studio in Brno, Otakar Berthen-Brožek The Big Movie (2008, 2× 70 min.). His most recent director's productions are the series for teenagers 4teens (2011)and TV film Go Astray (2012).

Despite the variety of genres, his scripts always remain fresh, many films were shot using modern narrative techniques; Pavel is good at finding his own original topics; however, when he is asked to execute the assignments of the television and production companies, the delivered quality is equally excellent
